The Largest Tree in the World

General Sherman is the largest living thing in the world. It resides in the Giant Forest. Sequoia trees are pretty awesome to behold. They're not as big as the trees in the Ewok Village on the planet Endor from the movie Return of the Jedi. Actually, I believe that this is where the movie was filmed.

Bambi Lives

There are a bunch of Bambi's family members running around the giant forest.

Moro Rock

Moro Rock is a giant granite dome in Sequoia National Park. The views are spectacular here. They're so spectacular that they scared Sarah because she's afraid of heights. I wanted to base jump or hang glide off Moro Rock.

More posts of our trip to Sequoia to come. This will be a multi-part trip report.

Come Hither My Deer

Sarah asking the deer to come to her....

This was taken on our trip to Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park. Sequoia National Park is my favorite national park. It's about a 4 and a half hour drive from Los Angeles. It's also the second oldest national park after Yellowstone.

I took a lot of pictures, so I will update my posts as I upload the pictures to my blog.

Children's Art Contest

While the Mission Bazaar was going on, we had an art contest for the kids. They also got some wonderful prizes. The theme of the contest was "Outrigger Island", which is also the theme of this year's Vacation Bible School, VBS.

Soo Jin and Miju, who are art majors, helped out a lot.

I appreciate art, but I'm not artistic at all. I think the kids can draw better than me.

Knott's Berry Farm

I went with Mikey with his schoolmates to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. There were kids from kindergarten to 8th grade. I chaperoned the kindergarten to 1st graders along with a couple of other parents.

Mikey's friends were Jacob, Timothy, Isaiah, Alexander, and Alden. Even though we had the best chaperone to kid ratio of 2:1 among the school groups there, it was still chaotic trying to get those kids to stay together. They were like little monkeys who wanted to go off in every direction. We had to keep counting them every couple minutes to make sure they were all there.

Since they were little kids, we mostly stayed in the Camp Snoopy area. We didn't go on the really fun roller coasters. I'll have to come back next time to ride those.

Mikey was afraid of the kiddy coasters at first, but he liked them afterwards.

He was also able to win a little stuffed polar bear playing those rip off carnival games. He threw a ping pong ball into a small cup floating on water.

I guess it was a fun day, but I couldn't wait to go back home. Watching over kids is tiring work, especially at an amusement park. When I go try to bring back one kid that has run off to check out something he fancies, another kid goes off to another direction to look at something else. They also wanted to buy everything they saw and play every game too. I had to tell them no all the time, because they quickly ran out of money. I also had to make sure they didn't yell too much or fight with one another. This type of stuff happened all day long.

La Brea Tar Pits

The La Brea Tar Pits contains the world's richest collection of Ice Age fossils. For the past 40,000 years, animals have been falling into the asphalt seeps in the Rancho La Brea area in Los Angeles now known as the La Brea Tar Pits.

Natural History Museum

Some pictures from my field trip to the Natural History Museum.

It's a pretty nice museum with a lot of stuff to see.

Movies I've Seen in 2008

This post is just a way for me to list all the movies I've seen this year. My other post entitled My Favorite Movies of All Time was just getting too long.

http://davidmkim.blogspot.com/2006/01/my-favorite-movies-of-all-time.html

I've been adding all the movies I've been watching to that list. That list had almost a thousand movies on it. I just want to keep track of all the movies I've seen so that I don't forget them. With all the movies I've seen, I probably wasted a year's worth of my life just watching movies. I probably spent about another year's worth of my life watching t.v. shows. That's not something I'm proud of, but at least I enjoyed my time vegging out. Sometimes t.v. is better than real life. If I calculated all the time I wasted on various other hobbies, I probably would have spent more time on them versus the amount I spent on studying and working and just being productive. Oh well. Life is too short to be worrying about that. I will be adding to this list of movies I've in 2008 throughout the year (if I remember). I won't be doing movie reviews as I've previously done, because they are too time consuming and I'm just plain too lazy these days to write them up. I may do some by request or whenever I feel like doing them.
